St Leonard's Place: Retail Unit

Set within the City Wall and adjacent to Bootham Bar an independent café and new public toilets have been constructed as part of a city wide programme of improvements. The design aims to be minimal and contemporary to create a contrast with the historic context.

A fragment of Roman wall has been exposed for the first time in 100 years beneath a glass floor within the café.

The external cladding pre-oxidised copper with frameless glazing. English Heritage and the City of York Council were very supportive of the proposals from the outset.
